Today I am going to take trip back to my humble past as a 90's kid. In the 90's video games were huge but board games were a close second. I remember sitting down and playing these board games with my brother and friends for hours. Though board games are still around and are making a steady comeback you do not see as many TV commercials for them or nearly as
many kids playing them today. Below is a list of my top 5 favorite board games as a kid.
5. Thin Ice
Thin Ice is a board game that was produced in 1989 by the Pressman Toy Corporation. The game was so simple a kid could set it up and play. My brother and I must have went through 8 paper towel rolls playing this game. The game features a lower ring with marbles and an upper ring, where a tissue is placed to emulate thin ice. Marbles sit below in a pool of water. The object of the game is to place as many wet marbles as possible on the tissue. Eventually, the weight of the marbles will cause the tissue to break and dump the marbles into the lower ring. The first person to break the “ice” 3 times loses.
4. Tornado Rex
Tornado Rex is a three-dimensional board game created in 1991 by Parker Brothers. Now this game was fun! Shooting Tornado Rex off of his winder could get pretty dangerous if pointed in the wrong direction! The object is to take two hikers and move them to the top of a mountain without being knocked back to base camp by Tornado Rex. The main objective of the game is to be the first player to hike up "Tornado Mountain" and make it to "Look Out Point".
3. Eat at Ralph’s
Eat at Ralph’s by Milton Bradley is a fun filled game that featured Ralph, a man that would vomit his food if you overfed him! As children nothing was better than getting cardboard food ralphed right in your lap! The object of the game is to be the first player to feed all your food tokens to Ralph. Each turn players roll a die and must feed the billboard-style Ralph certain foods. If he regurgitates the food, the player must keep this food which may include food that this player did not feed him.
2. Shark Attack!
Talk about a game full of adrenaline! In Shark Attack the shark goes around in circle devouring fish. The last fish left un-eaten is the winner. It's a race! And a chase! And a swim-for-your-life escape! You are one of four little fish that encounter a shark with a ferocious appetite. You've got to move -- and move fast! Roll the dice and move your fish. But watch out! If you're not fast enough, the motorized shark creeps up behind and swallows your fish. You're out of the game. The last fish to escape that shark's bite wins the game.
1. Crossfire
Man what a game! What a commercial! The theme song for the commercial will forever be burned into my brain. This game was intense and not to brag but I won many of battles on the Crossfire playing fields. Crossfire was created by the Milton Bradley in 1971. The object of the game is to score goals by pushing one of the two pucks into the opposing player's goal. This task is accomplished by shooting small metal ball bearings at the pucks using the attached guns.
