In celebration of Disney Channel's 100th original movie Disney is throwing a 4 day Memorial Day mega-marathon of the top DCOMs (Disney Channel Original Movie). As a part of this celebration I thought id right an article about my favorite DCOMs growing up as a 90s kid.
Brink
Andy “Brink” Brinker is the best in-line skater at the beach. He and his in-line skating crew, the "Soul-Skaters,” have a fierce rivalry going with corporate sponsored in-line “X-Bladz,” whose cocky captain covets Brink's talent. This movie got me into rollerblading and skating, the soundtrack and fashion for this movie pretty much defines my child hood. This is probably one of my favorite DCOMs of all time but its soo hard to pick favorites!
Smart House
It's high-tech hilarity the whole family will love when high school science whiz Ben Cooper goes on-line to win a computerized "Smart House" specifically designed to make life easier. I wanted to live in this house so bad as a kid. Even though the crazed digital house keeper "MoM" was super creepy I like to think id still risk it.
Motocrossed
Andi and her twin brother Andrew both love motocross racing, but their Dad thinks it's too dangerous for girls and would rather see her cheerleading. But when Andrew is injured during a practice race against his sister, Mr. Carson heads to Europe looking for a replacement rider. After watching this movie I needed a dirt bike, I like to think I would of been half as good as Andi if the wish ever came true.
HalloweenTown
On her 13th birthday, Marnie learns she's a witch, discovers a secret portal, and is transported to Halloweentown -- a magical place where ghosts and ghouls, witches and werewolves live apart from the human world. This was another top DCOM for me growing up, Grandma Aggie was the ultimate bad ass. As far as the rest of the Haloweentown collection, not so much...
Johnny Tsunami
When teen surfing sensation Johnny Kapahala is uprooted from Hawaii and forced to move to Vermont, he gets caught in the middle of a long-standing battle between the local prep school skiers and the public school snowboarders. This movie got me and my little brother into surfing culture and we have never looked back. Looking back at my favorites it seems a lot of them were sport related movies it was a different time growing up back then.
Well Disney Nerds thats it for another Top 5! This list is not in any particular order nor does it include all my favorites. Honorable mentions include but not limited to The Luck of the Irish, The Even Stevens Movie, The Thirteenth Year and Phantom of the Megaplex. Thanks for reading and taking yet another time traveling journey on my Nostalgic Overload.
