Disney's One Saturday Morning Ad

Growing up in the ’90s, Saturday mornings were a chance to get away from it all. No school, no responsibilities—just a bowl of cereal and a spot on the couch. Those were the good old days. There was plenty of competition in the Saturday morning cartoon lineup, but one block always had me tuning in. Can you hear it? That catchy theme song that signaled the start of a Saturday morning well spent?

Monday morning, wake up time,
Get to work and stand in line
What would make you feel real fine?
One Saturday Morning

Disney’s One Saturday Morning was a block of animated shows that aired on ABC from 1997 to 2002. Hosted by Jessica Prunell, the program mixed cartoons, comedy segments, and the colorful One Saturday Morning virtual world into a package that felt unlike anything else on television. Popular shows included Doug, Pepper Ann, Recess, The Weekenders, Lloyd in Space, and House of Mouse.

This was probably the last cartoon block I watched religiously. I remember waking up early with my brother and rushing to the living room before the shows started. Sometimes we’d build a fort out of couch cushions and watch from our “impenetrable fortress,” convinced we had the perfect Saturday morning setup.

When One Saturday Morning ended in 2002, it felt like the end of an era. Sure, cartoons still existed, but Saturday mornings just weren’t the same. Looking back, some of my favorite shows from the block were Recess, The Weekenders, Lloyd in Space, Doug, and House of Mouse. Each one had its own personality, but together they created a lineup I still remember more than twenty years later.

Thankfully, thanks to streaming services and the internet, these shows haven’t been lost to time. It’s easier than ever to revisit your favorites and relive a little piece of childhood.

MEMORY UNLOCKED

My brother and I would build a fort out of couch cushions, grab a giant bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, and refuse to leave the living room until One Saturday Morning was over. For a few hours every weekend, our fort was the best seat in the house, and nothing could pull us away from the TV.

For many ‘90s kids, Disney’s One Saturday Morning wasn’t just a cartoon block—it was a weekly event. It was the soundtrack to countless weekends and a reminder of a simpler time when the biggest decision of the day was which cereal to eat.

Can you hear the theme song now?
